SupplyScape, which provides electronic pedigree security, has lined up more than 50 customers in the three years it has been in existence. So claimed Toni Pommet, marketing communications manager for the Woburn, Mass., firm. Customers range from manufacturers such as Pfizer, which uses SupplyScape's e-pedigree system for its Viagra (sildenafil); to wholesalers, such as H.D. Smith; to pharmacy chains, such as Walgreens; and finally to the independent cooperative Associated Pharmacies Inc. Boosting e-pedigree adoption are new federal requirements from the Prescription Drug Marketing Act as well as increasing legislation on the state level. For instance, California has a product serialization requirement that goes into effect in 2009. Pommet told Drug Topics that SupplyScape can get customers up and running on an e-pedigree system in 60 to 90 days. She suggests that companies that are interested use a phased-in approach of starting out with drugs that are most subject to counterfeiting.
