Even though Mommy’s Bliss Nipple Cream states that there is no need for moms to remove the cream before nursing, the Food & Drug Administration has just issued a warning that this is far from the truth. Designed to sooth and heal dry or cracked nipples, the product contains two ingredients that may cause respiratory distress or vomiting and diarrhea in infants. The two ingredients are chlorphenesin, which can depress the central nervous system and cause slow or shallow breathing in infants, and phenoxyethanol, which can lead to vomiting and diarrhea in babies and dermatitis in their mothers. MOM Enterprises Inc., San Rafael, Calif., said it has stopped selling the product.
