    Two Companies Announce Drug Recalls

Two companies have issued recalls on their products.

Two voluntary recalls by two separate companies were made recently.

The first is a voluntary recall of a variety of products from SCA Pharmaceuticals. Though no adverse reports or complaints have been received, the company is issuing the recall due to possible microbial contamination. This contamination could result in serious or life-threatening infections.

The full list of recalled products, along with their lot numbers, are:

The affected products were distributed to hospitals nationwide. Customers should discontinue use immediately and return to SCA Pharmaceuticals at 8821 Knoedl Court, Little Rock, AR 72205.

More information can be found at the FDA’s website.

In another announcement, Octapharma USA Inc. is voluntarily withdrawing two lots of Octagam 10% [Immune Globulin Intravenous (human)] 10% Liquid Preparation] from the market. The affected lots are K724B8541 and K725A8541.

According to the FDA withdrawal alert, Octapharma has not received any reports of serious injury, but, the company is recalling the lots due to an increased number of reports of hypersensitivity events according to a letter given to distributors.

Octapharma has conducted other withdrawals of a similar product, Octagam [Immune Globulin Intravenous (human)] 5% liquid preparation] in the past, over similar concerns.
