New health app redefines pharmacist-patient relationship

    Other features

The Spark Health app also provides patients with help in meal planning as well as exercise. The Meal Mixer offers hundreds of heart-healthy and diabetes-friendly recipes. If patients can’t find the food that they are craving, they can type in an ingredient, such as quinoa — a grain known for its high protein and fiber — and get a listing of hundreds of recipes to choose from.

Patients who want help with staying fit can find exercise routines through the app’s Exercise Mixer.

“We made every one of those videos on our own, with an exercise physiologist and some great people who wanted to come in and exercise on camera,” Pope said.

The Spark Health app is available for download from the App Store and soon will be available for Android smartphones as well. It also can be found online at creativepharmacist.com/sparkapp. Access to the app is available to those who join creativepharmacist.com, which now serves more than 1,000 pharmacies nationwide.

“It’s time we rethink pharmacy and partner with our patients to improve their health,” Pope said.
