    Hilliard named 2017-2018 APhA president-elect

    Nicki L. Hilliard, PharmD, MHSA, BCNP, FAPhA, has been elected to the position of APhA president-elect for 2017-2018. She will succeed Nancy A. Alvarez as APhA president at the end of the 2018 APhA annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn.

    Hilliard is a professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy. Her pharmacy experience includes both independent and chain pharmacy and free medical clinics. She has focused most of her career as an educator of nuclear pharmacy practice and management. Hilliard is a former APhA-APPM president and APhA trustee and served on the APhA Governmental Affairs, Strategic Directions and Policy Standing Committees. She also served on the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and is the current chair of the Pharmacy Provider Status Task Force and the Government Affairs Committee for the Arkansas Pharmacists Association.

    Sandra Leal, PharmD, MPH, FAPhA, CDE, and Randy McDonough, BS, PharmD, MS, CGP, BCPS, FAPhA, were elected to three-year terms on APhA's Board of Trustees.

    Leal, vice president for Innovation at SinfoniaRx, a provider of medication therapy management services, is working to establish integrated clinical pharmacy services in a variety of settings, including hospitals, integrated behavioral health clinics, accountable care organizations, and patient-centered medical homes. She is using telehealth and other strategies to scale resources to communities, clinicians, and patients. Leal received her PharmD from the University of Colorado and her MPH in Public Health Practice from the University of Massachusetts.

    McDonough co-owns the Towncrest and Towncrest Compounding Pharmacies in Iowa City, and Solon Towncrest Pharmacy in Solon, Iowa, where he develops and implements clinical services, manages staff, and markets the businesses. He has spearheaded development of collaborative working arrangements with local physicians in the areas of immunization, anticoagulation, disease-state management, and MTM services, and has trained and/or supervised more than 20 post-graduates. McDonough received his BS, MS, and PharmD degrees from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, where he is adjunct clinical professor.

    Honorary president

    Philip P. Burgess, RPh, DPh, MBA, has been elected as APhA's 2017-2018 Honorary President. A pharmacy industry consultant since 2009, Burgess is a 40-year veteran of Walgreens, where he held many corporate management positions, including national director of pharmacy operations. Through the years, Burgess has served the pharmacy community in countless positions of leadership. At present he is on the executive committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy; is a member of the Illinois State Board of Pharmacy, where he has served for 14 years, with five terms as chair; and is president of the Community Pharmacy Foundation, a position he has occupied since its launch in 2002. He is also a longtime member of Drug Topics' editorial advisory board.
